Match Schedule:

Atlético Madrid vs. Leipzig

Champions League Quarter-Finals

Date: 13 August 2020; Time: 2:00 PM

Stadium: José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon

With the painful memory of late 2014 and 2016, the two losses against Real Madrid, the Atlético go to Lisbon for an atypical 'final 8' to take you to erase those bad memories. But, the dream of the 'Orejona' was about to be truncated again this year even before traveling to Lisbon.

On Sunday the Argentine attacker Ángel Correa and the Croatian side Sime Vrsaljko tested positive for coronavirus, making people fear more infected, although finally there were no more infected and Atlético was able to travel.

The rojiblanco team, which eliminated Liverpool, the current European champions, in the round of 16 before the football break due to the pandemic, has returned from confinement in good shape with seven wins and four draws in the last eleven league dates.

Atlético went back in those last eleven days from sixth to third in the league, to fulfill their goal of being in the Champions League next year, and now they are looking for an 'Orejona' that will brighten their season.

No one hid the relief that the draw paired Atlético with one of the theoretical weaker teams in the quarterfinals, which is looking to surprise in its third year in the top club competition.

Despite this, the rojiblancos do not trust a team that finished first in their group ahead of Olympique Lyon and eliminated Tottenham, a finalist last year, in the round of 16. Especially against Leipzig that finished third in the Bundesliga after scoring 81 goals, thirty more than Atlético de Madrid in their championship, the result of their offensive game.

The German coach, however, will have to think about how to cover the sensitive absence of his striker Timo Werner, author of 34 goals, four of them in the Champions League, who left Leipzig for Chelsea in June without waiting to conclude his European journey.

Leipzig wants to continue making history by entering their first Champions semi-final, while Atlético wants to take another step towards the 'Orejona' that resists so much.
